Cankles and Heartburn...

The 22nd week of this pregnancy has brought on two new interesting developments. First - Non stop cankle action. They calm down overnight only to swell up again the second I walk into the office in the mornings. Strangely enough, they are usually ok on the weekends. On Thursday I had some major swelling from the knees down all the way to my toes (even the top of my foot was puffy) but the swelling was super awful in my left leg and barely noticeable in my right. I called the Triage line of my doc's office, and they told me to get my butt in that afternoon.

And why? I was thinking "Oh, great this is it - I'm going to have pre-eclampsia."

Apparently, that isn't what the doc was worried about. Evidently, the swelling and chest pains I was complaining about are indicative of congestive heart failure.

Oh noes!

Anyway - my ticker is just dandy. Nothing to worry about there. The chest pains are actually heart burn. And as it turns out, my blood pressure was pretty high, and the doctor wasn't convinced that it wasn't anxiety related. He told me to lay on my left side and nap for a few minutes in the dark room. After about 10 minutes one of the nurses came in and took my blood pressure again. It had come down significantly.

The prognosis? I'm stressing myself into this:

Ok - it isn't really that bad. But basically I'm letting work stress me out WAY too much.

Oh, and Tums are my new best friend. Stupid frickin' heart burn.

Finally - I think I am having braxton hicks contractions - but it could be the baby moving. I swear I feel my whole stomach tighten up and then loosen up for a few minutes every once in awhile.

  1. Ok, first I love your new blog design! I think this is my favorite so far.

Second, can we just cry together that our bodies are breaking down before they're supposed to? You swelling and heartburn; me teeth...
That picture was scary. At first I thought that was you. Did you think that about my teeth picture (haha!)?

Third, Braxton Hicks: welcome to this stage of pregnancy! Those sure do get your attention! Have you felt the baby hickup yet? Reagan would get the hickups at least once a day. I couldn't concentrate on anything else while her little body was rythmically bouncing in my belly.

  2. V -

Glad you like the new blog design :) I found a heap of cute free blogger templates, and I snatched them all up, but this will do until the fall/winter comes around.

I knew that picture wasn't of your teeth :) But it was still a good picture. And what is up with us, falling apart the way we are? I'm going to blame all the white flour and sugar, and the over processed foods. Oh, and liberals, I blame them, too.

I haven't felt any hiccuping yet. Honestly, I'm not very confident that anything I'm feeling is what I think it is. I feel flutters and think it is the baby, and then wonder if it is just gas. My stomach tightens up and I think it is the baby, but perhaps it is braxton hicks.

One thing is for sure - I need a vacation :)

  3. Hah! I definitely blame the liberals for every ailment we're facing now! I love your Obama picture.

The flutters, who knows what they really are. The tightening though is most likely the muscles around your uterus (or your uterus) just gearing up for performance. If you've, um, o'ed then you'll feel the same thing. Did I just say that!?

Anyway, hope the swelling stays down!
